Chairman of the SZRU Yehor Bozhok’s Greetings on the 100th Anniversary of the Foreign Intelligence of Ukraine

Today we are celebrating a special date – a centenary of the Foreign Intelligence of Ukraine.

It was on this day 100 years ago that on January 24, 1919, the Department of Foreign Information of the Directory of the Ukrainian People’s Republic was created – the first unit of foreign intelligence of independent Ukraine. We have returned our history and have finally got rid of Soviet sentiments.

The return of our own history and original traditions is one of the main tasks of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine’s reform in accordance with the NATO standards that we have been implementing since 2017 on the instructions of President Petro Poroshenko and with the support from Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman and NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov.

This is also an important element of our struggle against the Kremlin’s hybrid aggression. Since the aggressor’s special services have long been tasked with imposing on Ukraine and the whole civilized world of the Russian, distorted by the communist ideology, vision of history.

Our today’s holiday is another important victory. Now we know our real past, and therefore – we will definitely have independent future.

Our reborn Autocephalous Orthodox Church, restored Army, flourishing language and culture give even more reasons for my being sure of this.

Next will be to perform the second important task in the context of the reform of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine. This task is our return to our home, to our true family – the Euro-Atlantic community. We are conducting organizational and structural reform, de-Sovietization and de-KGB-zation. We are giving up excessive secrecy, introducing civil democratic control over the intelligence sector. We have improved legislation and developed a new draft of the Law of Ukraine “On Intelligence”, jointly with our partners from NATO, the United States, Great Britain, France, Germany, Poland, Romania, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. These are the NATO standards that we are implementing in order to restore the trust of our friends and partners from NATO and the EU without which our full integration into the Euro-Atlantic space is impossible.

Dear Friends! We are moving forward by a victorious step!

Glory to Ukraine! And glory to its glorious Foreign Intelligence!
