December 21, 2018, a traditional annual meeting of the leadership of the SZR of Ukraine with veterans of the Foreign Intelligence was held in the official reception hall of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. At the meeting, the issues of further development of the veteran movement were discussed, and the veterans, helping the SZRU in fulfilling its tasks, were awarded.
The year 2018 was a mile stone in the activities of the veteran organization of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine. With the support of the Chairman of the Service Yehor Bozhok, the All-Ukrainian Council of the SZRU Veterans was created and registered as a non-governmental organization, part of which became the “Foundation of Veterans and Officers of the SZRU” and the “Foundation for Supporting the Foreign Intelligence of Ukraine”. Such an association has made it possible to significantly improve social protection of former intelligence officers and their families, as well as to bring the veteran movement to a qualitatively new level. During the year, the structure of the Council of the SZRU Veterans and its Statute were approved, the Board was elected, the directions of work were determined, territorial subdivisions started to be formed.
Today, the All-Ukrainian Council of Veterans of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine is gradually gaining authority and becoming a truly influential public organization capable of solving a wide range of issues of social protection of former intelligence officers and substantially helping the SZR of Ukraine. Heads of veterans’ organizations of special services of Ukraine, of veterans of war and the ATO, and of law enforcement agencies, who also participated in the event, pointed out that the SZRU had launched a very important process of uniting former employees into a capable, active and absolutely needed working structure that not only unites veterans, but will also contribute to the training and education of the younger generation of intelligence officers.
Speaking before the veterans, the Chairman of the SZRU Yehor Bozhok emphasized that at last Ukraine has officially established the Day of the Foreign Intelligence of Ukraine, which, according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, will be celebrated annually on January 24 — the day when one hundred years ago, within the UPR Directory was established the Division for Foreign Information which conducted intelligence work against the UPR’s enemies.
Symbolically, at the end of the meeting of the Council of Veterans its participants laid flowers to the monument to the prominent state and political figure — Head of the Central Council of the UPR Mykhailo Hrushevskyi
